REVIEW: Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid

¡Hola a todos!  

Hace un tiempo que no escribía, la verdad es que he dejado un poco aparcado el blog debido al trabajo, estamos en plena temporada alta de verano y se nota. Cuando llegaba a casa no me apetecía mucho sentarme a escribir y a sacar fotos, pero he decidido que quiero continuar a pesar de que tarde un poquito más en escribir. Quiero postear al menos una vez por semana, creo que es lo ideal para poder compaginarlo todo y tener actualizado el blog. Me lleva algo de tiempo preparar las entradas: sacar fotos, buscar información, redactar, traducir al inglés, montar el post con todos sus títulos y fotos y otras tareas del blogging; por esto creo que es la opción más factible en vez de postear más de dos veces a la semana. Como todavía estoy empezando, si me lees y acabas de caer por aquí…por favor, sería maravilloso que eches un vistazo al resto de mis entradas y al blog en general y me des tu opinión (en los comentarios, redes sociales…) sobre qué te gusta y qué no, y qué cosas te interesaría ver y leer.

Sin más, empecemos con la entrada de hoy, la cual voy a dedicar al famosísimo Blackhead Power Liquid de Cosrx. Un producto superestrella de la cosmética coreana, de la bien amada marca Cosrx (ese nombre imposible de pronunciar) dentro y fuera de Corea. Ya han pasado varios meses desde que lo estoy usando, y creo que es hora de dar una opinión bien fundamentada. Vamos a ello.

Has been a while since I don't write, the truth is that I had to stop writing on the blog because of work, we are in high summer season and it's crazy. When I got home I did not feel like sitting at my PC and taking photos, but I decided that I want to continue, although posting an entry will take more time. I want to post at least once a week, I think it is the ideal to be able to combine everything and have the blog updated. It takes me some time to prepare the entries: taking photos, looking for information, writing, translating to English, make a collage with all text and its titles and photos and other blogging tasks. This is why I think it is the most feasible option instead of posting more than twice a week. As I'm still starting, if you read me and you just got here... please, it would be wonderful if you take a look at the rest of my posts and the blog in general and give me your opinion (in comments, social networks...) about what you like and what not, and what things you are interested in seeing and reading.

Let's start with today's entry, which I will dedicate to Cosrx's famous Blackhead Power Liquid. A superstar product of Korean cosmetics, the beloved brand Cosrx (that name impossible to pronounce) inside and outside Korea. It's been several months since I've been using it, and I think it's time to give a well-grounded opinion.  Let's go for it.

Básicamente, este producto nos promete deshacernos de las células muertas de la piel y puntos negros y prevenir su formación, realizando una exfoliación química bajo las capas de la piel gracias al BHA al 4% en su forma de betaine salicylate (BHA= beta hydroxy acid, o lo que es lo mismo: ácido salicílico, +  betayne salicylate -salicilato de betaína-, una mezcla más amable con el rostro que el ácido tal cual), entre otros ingredientes como:

• Salix alba (sauce): propiedades analgésicas, antiinflamatorias, astringentes, depurativas…
• Niacinamida: ayuda a iluminar la piel
• Arginina (aminoácido): nutre la piel, antienvejecimiento, elasticidad…
• Pantenol (ácido pantoténico, vitamina B5 en su estado alcohol): vitamina hidrosoluble esencial para el cuerpo, propiedades emolientes (hidratación).
• Butylene Glycol (butilenglicol): hidrata la piel, se podría comparar con la glicerina.

¿Qué es el BHA?

Como mencioné antes, el BHA es la forma acortada de beta hydroxy acid, ácido salicílico. Sí, es un tipo de ácido muy usado para la piel, en especial la piel grasa, o con tendencia acneica además de en otro tipo de afecciones cutáneas.

¿Por qué se usa?

Es un ácido con propiedades antiinflamatorias y antibacterianas, disuelve la suciedad dentro de nuestros poros y también desde fuera, reduciendo nuestros puntos negros (recordar, que son poros en los que el sebo ha quedado estancado y al estar en contacto con el aire se oxida y se oscurece, se trata de poros que están abiertos; esta es la diferencia principal con los puntos blancos, los cuales son más peligrosos y son blancos al estar cerrados. Se ve la pus dentro del poro, el cual está infectado) y previniéndolos al mantener los poros limpios y haciéndolos más pequeños, con lo que conseguiremos además una piel más fina y lisa.

Contraindicaciones

¿Parecía todo muy bonito verdad? Todo ácido conlleva un riesgo para nuestra salud. Usarlos excesivamente o sin las precauciones necesarias nos dará más de un disgusto. Hay que tener especial cuidado cuando empezamos a usar estos productos:

• Si es la primera vez que usas un ácido (ya sea BHA, AHA, o incluso vitamina C) debes saber que tu fotosensibilidad aumenta. ¿Qué quiere decir esto? Que NO DEBES usarlos sin usar protección solar a su vez. Siguiendo el libro de Charlotte Cho, da igual que uses estos productos por la noche, porque tu piel está más sensible al sol, por tanto de día podrá dañarse más fácilmente también. Da igual que no vayas a exponerte directamente al sol, basta el trayecto en coche al colegio, instituto o trabajo. Basta que estés cerca de una ventana. Cinco minutos de exposición son suficientes para causar algún tipo de daño. Tampoco hay que prescindir del protector en los días nublados, los rayos UVA y UVB pueden atravesar las nubes. Y no basta tampoco con aplicarnos crema una vez al día, hay que reaplicarla cada dos o tres horas puesto que el FPS va disminuyendo. Repito para énfasis, NO USAR ÁCIDOS SIN PROTECTOR SOLAR (y cuanto más alto sea el FPS, mejor. Yo uso mínimo un 50PA+++, y otra cosa importante es que lo mejor es que sean protectores físicos y no químicos puesto que los químicos absorben los rayos y la transforman en energía térmica, mientras que los físicos actúan como un espejo y los hacen rebotar. Buscarlos con formulaciones a base de óxido de zinc, óxido de titanio o dióxido de titanio).

• Al ser un ácido, puede causar molestias en la piel, sobre todo si es sensible. Picor, ardor, rojeces…cuidado con esto, observar siempre nuestra piel y su respuesta al principio de usarlo, y usarlo poco a poco: primero una vez a la semana, luego dos, luego tres y así sucesivamente midiendo el grado de tolerancia de la piel.

• Se pueden combinar ácidos, pero nunca usarlos a la vez (creedme, lo sé por experiencia). El efecto es contraproducente, y os crearía un buen brote. Si usáis productos con AHA y BHA o vitamina C por ejemplo, usadlos por separado por la mañana y por la noche o en días alternos.

• Si tienes alergia a la aspirina, mejor no usar BHA puesto que la aspirina es un medicamento a base ácido acetilsalicílico y pertenece a la familia de los salicilatos al igual que ácido salicílico. Resumen, el BHA también te causaría alergia.

• El BHA debería de usarse nada más terminas la limpieza facial, antes incluso del tónico. ¿Porqué? Porque actúa mejor si la piel tiene un pH bajo, y si todo ha ido bien y usamos los productos correctos, nuestro limpiador deberá de ser uno con un pH ácido, el cual permitirá que el BHA se asiente mejor en nuestra piel y multiplique los efectos de los siguientes pasos de nuestra rutina.

• Siguiendo el hilo del punto anterior, debe dejarse actuar durante unos minutos, para que realice su función. Yo lo suelo dejar unos 20 minutos, pero creo que con 10 o 15 podría bastar si tenemos prisa.

Basically, this product promises to get rid of dead skin cells and blackheads and prevent their formation by performing a chemical peel under the skin layers thanks to 4% BHA in its betaine salicylate form (BHA = beta hydroxy acid , or what is the same: salicylic acid, + betayne salicylate -betaine salicylate-, a kinder mix with the face as the acid), among other ingredients such as:

• Salix alba (willow): analgesic, anti-inflammatory, astringent, depurative properties ...
• Niacinamide: helps lighten the skin
• Arginine (amino acid): nourishes the skin, anti-aging, elasticity ...
• Panthenol (pantothenic acid, vitamin B5 in its alcohol state): water-soluble vitamin essential for the body, emollient properties (hydration).
• Butylene Glycol (butylene glycol): moisturizes the skin, it could be compared to glycerin.

What is BHA?

As I mentioned before, BHA is the shortened form of beta hydroxy acid, salicylic acid. Yes, it is a type of acid very used for the skin especially the oily skin or acne prone, in addition to other type of cutaneous affections.

Why is it used?

It is an acid with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, dissolves the dirt inside our pores and also from outside, reducing our blackheads (remember, they are pores in which the sebum has become stagnant and when in contact with the air it oxidizes and then turn dark. Here the pores are open, this is the main difference with the whiteheads, which are more dangerous and are white because the pore is closed. Pub can be seen nside the pore, which is infected) and preventing them from keeping the pores clean and making them smaller, with which we will also obtain a finer and smooth skin.

Contraindications

It all looked very nice, right? All acid carries a risk to our health. Using them excessively or without the necessary precautions will give us a displeasure. Special care must be taken when we start using these products:

• If it is the first time you use an acid (either BHA, AHA, or even vitamin C) you should know that your photosensitivity increases. What does this mean? You should NOT use them without using sunscreen. According to Charlotte Cho's book, it does not matter if you use these products at night, because your skin is more sensitive to the sun, so during the day it can be damaged more easily as well. No mather if you are not going to expose yourself directly to the sun, or just driving to school, institute or work. No mather if you are going to be near a window. Five minutes of exposure is enough to cause some kind of damage. Also we shoul use our sunscreen on cloudy days, UVA and UVB rays can penetrate the clouds. And it is not enough to apply cream once a day, we have to reapply it every two or three hours since the FPS is decreasing. I repeat for emphasis, DO NOT USE ACIDS WITHOUT SUNSCREEN (and the higher the FPS, the better.) I use a minimum of 50PA +++, and another important thing is that it is better if they are physical and not chemical sunscreens since the chemicals absorb the rays and transform it into thermal energy, while physicals act as a mirror and bounce them. Look for them with formulations based on zinc oxide, titanium oxide or titanium dioxide.

• Being an acid, it can cause discomfort in the skin, especially if it is sensitive. Itching, burning, redness ... be careful with this, always observe your skin and its response at the beginning of using it, and use it little by little: first once a week, then two, then three and so on by measuring the degree of tolerance of the skin.

• You can combine acids, but never use them at the same time (believe me, I know from experience). The effect is counterproductive, and would create a good outbreak. If you use products with AHA and BHA or vitamin C for example, use them separately in the morning and at night or on alternate days.

• If you are allergic to aspirin, it is better not to use BHA since aspirin is a medicine based on acetylsalicylic acid and it belongs to the family of salicylates, as well as salicylic acid. To resume, BHA would also cause you allergy.

• The BHA should be used just after you finish the cleansing, even before the toner. Why? Because it works best if the skin has a low pH, and if everything went well and we use the right products, our cleanser should be one with an acid pH, which will allow the BHA to settle better on our skin and multiply the effects of the next steps of our routine.

• Following the thread of the previous point, we have to leave it alone acting for a few minutes, so that it can performs its function. I usually leave it for about 20 minutes, but I think with 10 or 15 it could be enough if we are in a hurry.

 Según COSRX (contrastar con la información arriba expuesta):

1. Tras la limpieza facial, en la etapa del tónico y esencia, extender el producto en una medida de una moneda ligeramente por las zonas del rostro que lo necesiten.
2. Extender por toda la cara para lograr una textura de la piel más hidratada y lisa, usando un disco de algodón.
3. Evitar las zonas de los ojos y usar protector solar de día. 

According to COSRX (contrast with the information above):

1. After facial cleansing, in the toner and essence step, spread the product in a coin-sized amount slightly by the areas of the face in the need of.
2. Spread throughout the whole face to get a more hydrated and smooth skin texture, using a cotton pad.
3. Avoid areas of the undereyes and use sunscreen at daylight.

Packaging

El packaging es muy sencillo, en línea con los productos de Cosrx. Blanco y negro. Y punto.

Tanto el frasco como la cajita nos traen los ingredientes, instrucciones y precauciones en inglés (muy bien) y en coreano.

- Tamaño: unos buenos 100ml que durarán muuuuchos meses.

- Práctico dispensador que se puede controlar perfectamente.

¿Funciona?

Lo llevo usando desde finales de enero, en total casi seis meses. Para empezar dura muchísimo, es un producto que sale muy bien a cuenta. He gastado poco más de un tercio de la botella, usándolo por las noches.

Su olor no es su mejor virtud, pero qué se le va a hacer…es el precio por ponerte sólo lo que necesitas en la piel, libre de cosas adicionales como por ejemplo, el perfume. No huele mal, pero tampoco bien. Creo que esa es la mejor definición.

La textura es muy líquida, tipo agua, y es muy agradable de aplicar. Al principio puede arder un poco, pero en general después de su uso continuado no.

Efectividad: simplemente, la cumple. Se merece su fama porque realmente pienso que mi piel ha mejorado bastante gracias a este producto, quizá en conjunto con los demás pasos de mi rutina pero sobre todo por él. Mi piel se siente más lisa e iluminada, los puntos negros siguen apareciendo por que: sí, no hay producto capaz de erradicarlos por completo y hay que aceptarlo, así es el cuerpo humano, pero está claro que se han reducido de forma muy importante. La secreción de sebo también se ha reducido un poco, aunque creo que para esto se necesita la acción de otros productos en combinación para lograr equilibrar el rostro si lo tienes graso como yo. Mi piel está muy suave, y yo doy gracias de que el maravilloso COSRX sea una marca de tan buena calidad y a unos precios tan justos. Best product ever. 

Packaging

The packaging is very simple, in line with Cosrx products. Black and white. That's it.

Both the little bottle and the box bring the ingredients, instructions and precautions in English (cool) and in Korean.

- Size: 100ml that will last many months.

- Practical dispenser that can be perfectly controlled.

It works?

I've been using it since the end of January, in total almost six months. First, it lasts a lot. It is a product that really worth it. I have spent little more than a third of the bottle, using it at nights.

The scent is not its best thing, but it's obvious that the price you pay is for only what you need on your skin, free of additional things such as perfume. It does not smell bad, but not good either. I think that's the best definition.

The texture is very liquid, like water, and is very nice to apply. At first it may burn a little,  in general after its continued use it will stop causing it.

Effectiveness: It simply does. It deserves its fame because I really think that my skin has improved a lot thanks to this product, perhaps in conjunction with the other steps of my routine but especially because of it. My skin feels smoother and brighter, the blackheads continue appearing because...yes, there is no product capable of remove them completely and that fact must be accepted, so is the human body. But it is clear that they have been reduced in a very important way. The secretion of sebum has also been reduced a little, although I think that this needs the action of other products in combination to get a balance in the face if you have a oily one as me. My skin is very soft, and I am thankful that the wonderful COSRX is a brand of such good quality and at such fair prices. Best product ever.
